The University of Florida Entrepreneurship & Innovation Center selected Cocovana Founder Sheldon Barrett to represent the University in the 2017 REEF Governor’s Cup Competition at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida. This was a business plan competition against 9 other top Florida Universities. Before pitching, Barrett stated he would be contempt with just outperforming rival Florida State University, but somehow managed to win the entire competition!
This was the first competition where Cocovana was denied a table on stage to demo Coconut Twist. So for the first time, Barrett did a standing demo where he used just 2 hands to open a coconut in 10 seconds, then used an umbrella straw to sip coconut water as he answered questions from the judges. This blew the judges, investors, and audience away.
Cocovana did not do this competition for the money. We did it to showcase the talent of University of Florida student entrepreneurs. Cocovana won a beautiful glass trophy to keep, and a larger rolling trophy that will stay with the University of Florida for 1 year.
Cocovana would like to thank Jamie Kraft of the UF Entrepreneurship & Innovation Center for selecting us to compete, and Parker Van Hart for being the best "chaperone" ever!
